MCT Oil FAQ

Product Information

What is MCT Oil?

MCT oil is a concentrated source of medium-chain triglycerides—fats composed of fatty acids with 6 to 12 carbon atoms. These fats are more rapidly absorbed and metabolized by the body compared to long-chain triglycerides (LCTs). MCTs  contain caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10). Unlike other fats that require bile salts for digestion, MCTs are transported directly to the liver, and quickly converted into ketones or used as an immediate energy source.

Pure MCT oil is flavorless, colorless, and liquid at room temperature. It is often used by individuals following ketogenic or low-carbohydrate diets to support mental clarity, energy production, and metabolic function. MCT oil can be incorporated into beverages, dressings, and cooking (below 320°F/160°C) for a clean and easily digestible source of functional fat.

Why is MCT Oil healthy?

  • Active Ingredient: Medium-chain triglycerides (caprylic acid, capric acid)
  • Cognitive Support: MCTs are quickly converted to ketones, which serve as an alternative fuel source for the brain, supporting mental energy and clarity.
  • Metabolic Efficiency: MCTs bypass normal fat digestion pathways, supporting thermogenesis and natural fat oxidation.
  • Digestive Comfort: Unlike long-chain fats, MCTs are less likely to cause digestive discomfort and are easily absorbed even in individuals with fat malabsorption.
  • Endurance Support: MCT oil can support sustained energy output during physical activity by providing a quick fuel source.
  • Weight Management: Regular intake of MCT oil may support satiety and assist with balanced caloric intake when used as part of a health-conscious lifestyle.

What allergies or medication interactions are associated with MCT Oil?

  • Allergies: MCT oil derived from coconut may pose a risk for individuals with known coconut or palm sensitivities or allergies.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: MCT oil is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) in food quantities. However, supplementation during pregnancy or lactation should be discussed with a healthcare provider due to its potential effects on lipid metabolism.

Medication Interactions:

  • Anticonvulsants (e.g., valproate): MCTs may influence ketone production, potentially altering the metabolic response in individuals on ketogenic therapy.
  • Diabetes Medications: MCT oil can influence insulin sensitivity and blood glucose metabolism; monitor closely with blood sugar-lowering drugs.
  • Lipid-Lowering Agents: MCTs may mildly affect cholesterol levels and should be used under medical supervision in individuals taking statins or fibrates.

What does MCT Oil taste like?

  • Neutral: No noticeable flavor, making it ideal for mixing into foods or drinks.
  • Slightly Oily: Light mouthfeel typical of refined oils.
  • Clean Finish: Leaves no aftertaste or lingering coating on the palate.

How to use MCT Oil?

  • Coffee or Tea: Add 1 teaspoon to hot beverages like “bulletproof” coffee or herbal teas for energy.
  • Smoothies: Blend into protein or green smoothies to support satiety and energy.
  • Salad Dressings: Mix with vinegar, lemon juice, or herbs as a base for a healthy vinaigrette.
  • Low-Heat Cooking: Suitable for light sautéing or drizzling over warm foods (avoid high-heat frying).

How much is a serving size?

A typical serving size is 1 tablespoon (15 mL). Beginners should start with 1 teaspoon (5 mL) to assess tolerance and gradually increase to avoid potential digestive upset.

Does MCT Oil need to be refrigerated?

No. MCT oil is shelf-stable and should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration is not necessary but may slightly prolong freshness.

How is Nature’s Uncut MCT Oil manufactured?

Our MCT oil is made from 100% non-GMO coconuts using a fractionation process that isolates caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) acids without the use of solvents or chemicals. The oil is filtered and triple-distilled to ensure purity, clarity, and optimal absorption. We do not use palm oil, fillers, or synthetic additives—just clean, efficient MCTs.

“I have eczema and I get it all over and even on my face. I can use this oil on my face and it doesn’t affect my skin other than make it softer and much less irritated. I use it on dry patches on my body and they go away in days instead of weeks or months. The fact that this is a natural product makes me so happy. I am no longer using 3 to 5 different lotions. As I only need 1 now. Again, thank you so much.”
